Life on Capitol Hill, November 2006

The sale of Colfax East Animal Hospital and All Creatures is final, but the they’ll continue to operate under those names at a new facility at Colfax & Glencoe.

The creatures and critters of East Colfax… the four legged kind, folks… have received medical attention at All Creatures at 1249 E. Colfax or Colfax East Animal Hospital at 4625 E. Colfax for over a decade, but as LIFE reported recently, Paul Oberbroeckling, DVM recently sold his operations to Firehouse Animal Hospital chain (6th and Ogden).

“Dr. O.,” as he’s known, started All Creatures in 1988. He purchased Colfax East Animal Hospital in 1994.  “The main reason (for the sale) was wanting to continue to focus on patient care and client support,” he said.  “The business got to big for one person to do that and the business side.”  Oberbroeckling says he is eager to stay on as a vet.  He plans to stay a minimum of three years.  “Hopefully it will be longer,” he said.  “I was getting too much time taken away from patient care and I didn’t want to do that.”

The change will mean that these two veterinary facilities can extend hours and services.  Greg Waldbaum, one of the owners and the CEO of Firehouse Animal Health Centers, says that they plan to update the facilities.  “We are adding additional doctors and technology, but we are not subtracting anything,” said Waldbaum.

Both All Creatures and Colfax East will continue to operate as they have in the past under their current names until a new facility can be completed.  The site has already been chosen, a vacant McDonald’s situated on the southeast corner of Colfax and Glencoe.  Target date for opening is next summer.  The number for All Creatures is 303-830-7387. Colfax East’s phone number is 303-393-0510.
