TenderCare Veterinary Medical Center provides quality pet care and first-class customer service and offers a complete range of medical, dental and surgical services for dogs and cats.  Wellness programs include health examinations, diagnostic testing, parasite control, dental care, and vaccinations.  We also treat diseases and injuries, perform surgery, prescribe medications, and if necessary, refer and transfer our patients to high quality, pre-screened specialists.  We also have an in-house veterinary dental specialist.

Medical Director

Dr. Lisa McCarthy

Dr. McCarthy has been practicing small animal medicine in Texas, Arizona, and Colorado since 1990, most recently at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley. Dr. McCarthy received her BS in Chemistry from Sul Ross State University, and her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Texas A&M University. In 2005, Dr. McCarthy also earned a Masters in Business Administration from Colorado State University. Dr. McCarthy serves on the board of directors, and is an active participant in VIDAS, a non-profit organization providing subsidized veterinary services to impoverished and underserved populations of the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Dr. McCarthy is a member of several veterinary professional organizations, including the Denver Area Veterinary Medical Society, the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. McCarthy’s medical interests include internal medicine, surgery, preventive medicine, and dentistry. Dr. McCarthy shares her home with three wonderful shelter finds: a Heeler mix named Emmy Lou, a Lab mix named Poppy and Dickie the cat, who thinks he’s a dog. Dr. McCarthy enjoys water and snow sports, running events in the summer, and bluegrass music anytime.

Dr. Lynne Friedlander

 

Dr. Friedlander hails from Georgia where she completed both her undergraduate training and her DVM at the University of Georgia in 1984. Since graduation she has enjoyed a diverse practice life including mixed animal practice, small animal emergency and critical care, multi-hospital management and general small animal medicine. Her professional interests include behavior, internal medicine and dentistry. She shares her life with her husband, Marc, her son Jeremy, her daughter Ella, goofy Labradoodles Kismet and Karma, and Mitzi the kitty. All the family pets are rescue group alumni. She and her family love to hike, ski, bike, travel, play outdoor sports, woodwork and read.

Dr. Yvonne Knapp

 

Dr. Knapp is originally from Carson City, Nevada and moved to Colorado in 1996.  After receiving her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Ohio State University in 1989, she practiced in Las Vegas, Nevada for seven years and has been in beautiful Colorado since.  She loves all areas of veterinary medicine and has strong interests in the areas of internal medicine, dentistry, pain management and soft tissue surgery.  Dr. Knapp especially enjoys helping people who consider their pets as part of their family.  She spends her free time with her husband and their two teens.  They are very entertained by their 3 crazy dogs: Pearl, a Lab-Golden mix, the old lady of the bunch, Forte the tree climbing Jack Russell Terrier, and Buckeye the very energetic Pointer.  As a family the Knapp’s enjoy skiing, hiking, biking, golfing, playing tennis and horseback riding.

 

Dr Terry E. Watrous

Dr. Terry Watrous is a Utah native but has called Colorado home for 27 years.  Dr. Watrous graduated magna cum laude with a BS in Biology from the University of Utah in 1982.  After receiving his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University in 1986, he completed an internship in advanced surgery and internal medicine through the University of Saskatchewan in Canada.   While Dr. Watrous enjoys all aspects of clinical practice, his special interests are in pain management, orthopedics and feline medicine. He is also expanding TenderCare’s capabilities in minimally invasive diagnostics and surgery using endoscopy and laparoscopy.  Dr. Watrous is a member of numerous local and national professional organizations and is also a member of the International Veterinary Academy of Pain Management.  Dr. Watrous and his wife Lisa share their home with six special cats –Dudley Do-Right, Mr. Big, One-Eyed Jack, Zip, Kiki, Elvira, and their Catahoula Leopard dog Sadie. When not working, Dr. Watrous enjoys hiking, biking, snowshoeing, fishing and also does volunteer work with the American Cancer Society.

Dr. Edward Eisner

Dr. Edward R. Eisner is an internationally recognized leader in the field of Veterinary Dentistry.  He graduated from Cornell University and has been practicing in the Denver area since 1964.  He opened and operated the Campus Veterinary Clinic from 1971 to 2003, and began accepting dental referral cases in 1983.  Dr. Eisner brought his referral dental practice to TenderCare in 2003, which has since become Firehouse.  He has been actively involved with three veterinary dental associations since their inceptions and was in the first class of veterinarians certified as AVMA board certified Veterinary Dentists in 1989.  Dr. Eisner has lectured on veterinary dentistry both nationally and internationally for twenty-five years and is the co-author of many professional articles, dental book chapters, and of the textbook, Veterinary Dental Techniques.  From 1998 to 2006, he served on the Colorado Board of Veterinary Medicine.  He offers a broad range of treatments including orthodontics, root canal therapy, crowns, oral surgery, and periodontal treatment.  He is happy to accept dental referrals from the Rocky Mountain region.  Dr. Eisner shares his home with his wife, Coralee, and their Labrador Retriever, Rocky. Their daughter is a student at the University of Colorado, Boulder.
